Today happens to be the last day of November, a month designated as Rotary Foundation month in the Rotary calendar. This also coincides with Gurpurab, the birthday of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of
the sikh faith.
Van+dShhakō (Punjabi: ਵੰਡਛਕ)ੋ is one of the three main pillars of the teachings of Guru Nanak, It means to share what you have and to consume it together as a community. This could be wealth, food. etc. The term is also used to mean to share ones wealth with others in the community, to give to charity, to distribute in Langar and to generally help others in the community who need help And yet another, a larger view, would be to share one’s common resources in a shared and equitable manner.
These precepts to a large extent totally align themselves with one of the five avenues of Rotary i.e
Community service. The efforts of Rotarians worldwide are steered towards this end by the
The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance
world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of
education, and the alleviation of poverty.
Annually the Rotary Foundation raises over 400 million dollors and also spends nearly the
same. Annually India is the second largest contributor to the foundation, but it is the largest
beneficiary where projects in excess of Rs US $ 23 million are sanctioned.
We have set a rather challenging target for our Rotary Foundation collection for our District for
the year 2020-21 and it is upto us to pick up the challenge and reach beyond our own
expectations. Our District has always stood out for its Rotary Foundation and the collections have
been ahead of the curve.
I am truly happy that Rotarians in 3011 do not limit themselves to what they can easily
accomplish because they realize that limitations exist only if you impose them upon yourself.
It is certainly neither tough times nor rough situations that keep you from achieving what you
desire and deserve.
It is up to you to reinvent yourself. Revolutionise your world by constantly reminding yourself that
you have immense potential and your only limit actually Is YOU!
Every day is yet another opportunity for you not to limit your challenges but to challenge your
limits. Stretch the limits of the possible by venturing a little more into the impossible because if
you fail to push your limits you will suffocate in your own comfort zones.
As Mother Teresa would often day “Give till it hurts”. The world needs these funds.
I wish you every success in every endeavor in your life.
Yours in Rotary Service
Sanjiv Rai Mehra
District Governor 2020-21
